“And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold,
I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.”
Luke 2:10

Upon hearing of a friend's diagnosis of stage 4 cancer and that it was spreading to her vital organs, I asked the Lord what Word should I encourage her with? And He responded, “The Joy of the Lord is your strength!” Nehemiah 8:10

  • Joy is a feeling of great pleasure and happiness, delight, jubilation, triumph , exultation, rejoicing exhilaration.
  • Great is considerably, above the normal or average
  • Strength here means “place of safety,” a “refuge,” or “protection.” Although here in the book of Nehemiah they built a wall and they carried spears, the peoples' refuge and protection was in God.

I would call my friend early in the morning and sing the song, “Come on in the Room” for I believed we were entering our prayer room together, me, her, and the Trinity. You know it,

Come on in the room - Come on in the room-Jesus is my doctor - He writes out all of my prescriptions - And He gives me all of my medicine in the room.

But I did not realize this verse was there:

There's Joy in the room - Joy in the room - Jesus will meet you - The Holy Ghost will greet you - JOY UNSPEAKABLE JOY in the Room.

So when I called her it meant we were entering a place of refuge, a place of protection Psalms 91:1-2, a place where Jesus is at the right hand of God interceding for us Hebrews 7:25, a place where His blood is on the mercy seat and we can go in boldly Hebrews 4:14-16 a place where the Holy Spirit, the comforter is present John 14:16 a place where God said He will be there when two or three gather in His name Matthew 18:20 and that the very fullness of HIS Joy is present. Psalms 16:11 And in the fulness of His joy He speaks and directs us during our night seasons and shows us the way of life, in that place is hope and the assurance of His presence and life with Him eternally. Psalms 16:7-11

“I will bless the Lord, who hath given me counsel: my reins also instruct me in the night seasons. I have set the Lord always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope. For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.” Psalms 16:7-11

[The joy of the Lord is the joy that springs up in our hearts because of our relationship to the Lord. It is a God-given gladness found when we are in communion with God. Nelsons Commentary]

Then Sorrow turns to Great Joy

In that room (of joy in communicating with God) God takes care of the anxiousness that swells up because of the time it's taking while waiting on Him to answer. Psalms 27:14 - Isaiah 40:31

As Jesus prepared his disciples for his death and resurrection, He knew, because of their sorrow, they would only hear the death part and would fail to hear the victory telling them of His return. The same with us, we suffer first through the sorrow but because of Jesus (the Good News) our sorrow turns to great joy. John 16:18-22

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy .” John 16:20 When Jesus died, the disciples would openly express their intense sorrow. The world would rejoice assuming that it was rid of Jesus. But sorrow would be turned into joy. This is not merely a case of sorrow being followed by joy; but of sorrow becoming joy. Jesus compared it to a woman giving birth, A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world.” John 16:21 A woman in labor has sorrow, but the very sorrow is transformed into joy in the birth of the child.

Transform – to make a thorough (complete with regard to every detail, not superficial) dramatic (sudden and striking) change (make or become different ). And with this kind of transformation sorrow cannot remain it becomes triumphant and He says,
“.... and your joy no man taketh from you.”John 16:22

The world didn't give it and the world can't take it away. In that room (of communicating with the Almighty) we can sing, “Sing to the Lord, all you godly ones! Praise his holy name.... Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes with the morning.” Psalms 30:4-5

So let us rejoice with the angels today! “And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.” Luke 2:10 "And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men." Luke 2:13-14 For Great JOY a feeling of pleasure, happiness, delight, jubilation, triumph, exhilaration, rejoicing above anything you can explain nor can make natural sense, unspeakable JOY has come to all people!!!! Why? Because Jesus Christ our Savior is Born! Luke 2:11

This season I have suffered many losses of loved ones, deaths, sicknesses, financial challenges, bad news of attacks on others, calls for prayers of someone threatening nervous breakdowns, many things that seemed hopeless BUT through it all I've had the priviledge of experiencing a deeper level God's Great JOY as being my strength. The Joy of communicating with the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit who knows all and able to take care of all - turning whatever the sorrow is to Great JOY!

What about you today?

God says, “________________ (insert your name) I know your sorrows for My Son suffered too. But HE is the Joy that I sent of whom you can take refuge in. Come today for they that sow in tears shall reap in joy! The more you come the greater the joy you will experience.

Go to your Room of joy today, maybe bring someone with you, and let Jesus meet you, let the Holy Ghost greet you, bask in God's presence and experience the unspeakable joy that only comes from Him. [Smile] This is our song, what's yours? Click Here "Come On In The Room" The Georgia Mass Choir
