There is something that should happen within us when see someone in desperate need. Although Jesus had been teaching, preaching the gospel, and healing every sickness among the people, when he saw that there were still multitudes fainting and scattered he did not stop but compassion caused him to continue. The amplified version of Matthew 9:35-36 says, “… He was moved with pity and sympathy for them, because they were bewildered (harassed and distressed and dejected and helpless)…” It's compassion that should kick in after hearing a cry for help. I receive calls all the time at work asking for assistance. Although I always do my best, it's in those times when things seem hopeless and the person cries out in desperation, compassion causes me to go that much further. Have you noticed when it happens within you and who actually answers the call? Galatians 2:20 Etymology, the study of how words were formed, says compassion was formed from com- "together" + pati "to suffer". This is what Jesus did. Mark 1:40-42. When Jesus saw the suffering of people, it caused Him to come together with them to do something about it. He did not simply say, “Oh that's so sad that they are suffering so much, somebody ought to do something. I'm too tired.” James 2:15-16 No! No matter how physically exhausted he might have been, compassion moved him to do something. Matthew 15:32 I loved when He saw the mother walking behind the coffin of her only son, He was moved to compassion and brought him back to her. Luke 7:12-15. This encourages me that what the scripture says is true in Psalm 116:15.(NLT) "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints." As children of God and Disciples of Christ we should always have the mind of Christ in our workplace or wherever we have been placed to operate in this world Philippians 2:5. Our identity is not in our titles or job descriptions but who we are as laborers in the vineyard. You are not simply a secretary but a child of God, a laborer in the vineyard where He has placed you. Our jobs should be done in such a way that we always bring glory to God and prepared to move into action when a desperate call is made. Matthew 9:37 The laborers are called to go the second mile Matthew 5:41. Jesus told his disciples to pray that God send more because they are few Matthew 9:38. You don't have to preach a sermon on your job to win souls, you can simply answer the desperate calls and one day someone might just ask you, "What caused you to move to help?" Acts 16:30-31 God says, “_____________ (insert your name) have you simply been acting as a secretary, a court reporter, a lawyer or _______________ (insert your job)? The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few. Turn today and be My eyes, ears, feet and heart on the job or in the career I've placed you in. | |
