" And it came to pass, as he (King Sennacherib) was worshipping in the house
of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer
his sons smote him with the sword: ..."
2 Kings 19:37

I remember as a young adult in one of our Bible Study classes discussing how David often asked God to destroy his enemies in Psalms 28:4. Members shared their testimonies about how God destroyed their enemies when suddenly Ms. Moore said, “That aint right, God don't want us praying that He destroy our enemies.” You had to know Ms. Moore. She was a devout Christian woman, a close family friend, and was very outspoken. We went on with the discussion and she shook her head and begin to quote some of the scriptures on loving your enemies.

King Sennacherib attacked the fenced cities of Judah and took them, 2 Kings 18:13, but God knew what they did, watched them do it, which means He allowed the attack 2 Kings 19:23-24. God's people may have been surprised by the attack but God wasn't. He knew the enemy's every thought 2 Kings 19:27. God spoke his judgment against them 2 Kings 19:28, . 2 Kings 19:33-34. But God's judgment was not immediate. It “Eventually” came to pass in 2 Kings 19:35-37 over a twenty year period.

Eventually it's not a word we want to hear when our enemies are attacking us with full force. By experience I can imagine how King Hezekiah felt. What Rabshakeh and King Sennacherib were saying seemed more real than what King Hezekiah and Isaiah was saying. Their attacks were real and God's deliverance was true but had not manifested.

This part of the battle plan is what Paul called the good fight of faith 1 Timothy 6:12. In the midst of the “Eventually” we remember, (KJ) “And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the Lord unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God's.” 2 Chronicles 20:15 During this time we put on our weapons of warfare Ephesians 6:14-18 especially the shield of faith Ephesians 6:16. Satan, the weakness of your flesh, the “They Sayers”, and the “Nay Sayers” will swirl attacks that is designed to make you doubt and become weak in the midst in the wait of the Eventually (KJ)“… and having done all, to stand.” Ephesians 6:13. But!! Isaiah said Isaiah 40:28-29 and they that wait on the Lord shall do what? “… shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.!” Isaiah 40:31

My family is presently in the midst of a full force attack and it's hard to wait on God to handle it. My flesh says handle it your way but my spirit says wait on the Lord. Like David, I too want to say “Get them God and destroy them!” but I have been on this journey too long and I know God's way works, for not just me, but for all involved. It is of a truth, the scripture says Psalms 37:1-2 but Jesus came and took the penalty of sin away and then He said, “Forgive them for they know not what they do”. Luke 23:34

It's a strange thing in the midst of the "Eventually", as a child of God, our hearts change from Get them God to have mercy on them. (I'm struggling as I type this but I'm getting there. We are in the midst of the Eventually so pray for me. Just being real.) (Smile) In the midst of the "Eventually" your enemy can repent Jonah 3:4-6, Jonah 3:9 and that punishment can be removed Jonah 3:10, although there may be some consequences, it may not happen the way you want it to, but don't be like Jonah. Jonah 4:1-2 9 In the midst of the "Eventually" God strengthens you for the next battle. Romans 5:3-5

But does this mean we won't fight? No! but we will fight according to God's way and instruction. It's because of God's love that has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit, that my spirit kicks my flesh out and I can hear Ms. Moore saying, “That ain't right, Jesus says love your enemies.” 2 Peter 3:9, Matthew 5:43-45

What a bout you today? Are you in the midst of the Eventually? God says, “____________ (insert your name) the Eventually is not your concern, let me handle it. You stay focus on the present so I can get you through.”

In Loving Memory of Mrs. Josie Nell Moore (Ushered Home to Rest on October 16, 2004)
