"And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing
There was a time when 1 Corinthians 8:1-3 would be preached in church and I thought the Pastor was trying to talk about me from the pulpit. I did not realize the word was actually convicting me. Hebrews 4:12 At that time I had a serious need to be right. I actually thought I knew some stuff and was always ready for the opportunity to tell it not share it. Quote - “Oddly enough, it's the person who knows everything who has the most to learn.”— Service for Company Publications In 1 Corinthians8 the Corinthian believers were flaunting and putting the weaker believers down over their beliefs that eating food offered to idols was a sin. They argued that if the idols were worthless, then the meat offered to them was fine to eat. Paul agreed that food offered to idols was not contaminated but his heart went out to those who had not come to this knowledge. His desire was that they be set free from a false belief. Although I don't believe I tried to flaunt what I knew nor was my intentions to put others down but whenever the opportunity arose I was ready to tell what I knew. Then when someone else would share, if I allowed them to get a word in (smile), I would immediately say, “I Know”. Pastor would preach that some people run with the word to tell it when they get some knowledge but it was like knowing the hymn Amazing Grace without knowing how sweet the sound. Or as many preachers have preached about the actor who recited Psalm 23 but did not know the Shepherd. (KJV) And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know. 1 Corinthians 8:2 Such was with the Corinthian believers and anyone who God gives some revelation of the Word, if we simply allow pride to puff us up the Word says we are not practicing love. Pride causes us to be puffed up and ready to build ourselves up instead of sharing the word so that others come into the knowledge of God not in the knowledge of us. 2 Timothy 2:24-26 Because Paul was given an abundance of revelation of God, God gave him a thorn in his side to keep him from becoming prideful. 2 Corinthians 12:7 I loved what the Lord shared with me when I begin to study this word in 1Corinthians8:1-3 the (Living Translation) , He said to me, Denise, “But although being a know it all makes us feel important, what is really needed to build the church is love. If anyone thinks he knows all the answers he is showing his ignorance but the person who truly loves God is the one who is open to God's knowledge.” To receive more knowledge I must be open to receive His knowledge. How can God share more with me if I already know? I had a Pastor who would say “What you know God told you, what you have God gave it to you and where you got to go God has to take you.” As I repented and work daily to resist being puffed up with pride, God reveals more of himself to me. I'm not where I want and still strive to be but thank God I'm not where I use to be!! I now understand what it means “to be careful to give God all the glory, all the honor and all praise”. Because of this I can handle criticism, good or bad. I know I don't know everything and now when someone share the word, I make sure it's according to sound doctrine and ask God what is it you want me to know out of what is being shared. Today ________________ (insert your name) resist the opportunity to say I know. Remain in a state of always growing into the knowledge of God. Don't allow yourself or Satan to place a cap on what God is so willing to continue to give you. His knowledge and understanding is unsearchable Isaiah 40:28, yet as you seek to know Him, and come with a heart to serve Him by serving others, He gives you more.
