"....................Selah." When we pray God sends a Word to heal and deliver. Psalms 107:20 When God sends His Word we must sometimes stop for a moment and Selah. With so much going on in this world we must meditate on what God is saying. We must take in a deep breath of the Spirit that He might discern within ourselves that place of Peace, Hope, Love, Joy, and Power. Ephesians 1:19 A little dab just won't do you in times like these. So what is Selah and what is this so called Selah Formula? I'm glad you asked. Although there is a great deal of uncertainty about the meaning of the word Selah and some versions of the Bible do not even attempt to translate it, it is in God's Word and God does nothing without a purpose. There have been many attempts to define it.
If true, each time selah appears in Psalms, (which were 71 times) the musicians paused, perhaps to take a breath or to sing without the music or let the instruments play alone. Maybe they got so full and stopped to praise the One whom they were singing and speaking about. Often times, in the midst of singing, praising, and worshipping God, I have stopped, paused, breathed and just out right cried when I thought about who I was singing about...when in the midst I thought about His goodness and all He's done for me. Selah!
So to Selah is to: Pause, Breathe, Weigh the measure and the value of what GOD is saying, Job 23:12 , Hang on it for a while, Joshua 1:8, Rest right there, Hebrews 4:9-10 , And lift Him up above all, Numbers 23:19 – Jeremiah 32:27 Example: The Psalm writer wrote in Psalms 3:1-4 "Lord, how are they increased that trouble me! many are they that rise up against me. 2 "Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. Selah." He stoped right there and paused, breathed, weighed and measure it by what God says, 2 Chronicles 14:11, hung on it and thought about it, Jeremiah 32:27 - Romans 3:4 then moved on to lift Him up! "But thou, O Lord , art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head. I cried unto the Lord with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah. He Stopped again, paused, breathed, weighed and measured the value of it, hung on it for a while, then lifted up TRUTH!! My "Selah Formula" is simply meditating on the Word He sends me. It keeps me rooted and grounded in His Love. Ephesians 3:17. It allows the Spirit to strengthen me. Ephesians 3:16 He gives me spiritual wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of who HE is, Ephesians 1:17-18 It causes me to remain strong in faith and keeps me from waivering in doubt and unbelief in my times of hard testing and trials. Romans 4:20-21. AND It keeps me encouraged in the Hope of Glory! [the confidence of knowing that His excellence and power will be manifested.] Romans 5:2 So what's your scripture today. Read it through the guidance of the Spirit and Selah -Pause, Breathe, Weigh and measure the value of what God is saying to you, Hang on it for a while, Rest, and Lift Him Up in Praise and if you get a deep revelation you will might even SHOUT!!! Yes even before the manifestation of the answer. God says, _____________, (insert your name) draw nigh unto me and I will continue to draw nigh unto you and show you some things that you do not know. email: gardendevotion@gmail.com | |
