“You've already put in your time in that God-ignorant way of life, partying night after night,
I'm often asked, “Why don't you dance?” “There is nothing wrong with dancing”, they say. Hmmm…. I had to ask myself that same question. The problem was I was asking myself. My question should have been directed to God. I am not my own. I was bought with a price. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 Surely by asking myself my flesh will argue and agree with the majority but it's truly no longer what I want, it's what God wants of me and have called me to do. 1 Corinthians 7:23. So why don't I dance? Hmmm….. Have you ever heard the saying “You can't have your cake and eat it too”. Wikipedia.com says, “You can't have your cake and eat it (too) is a popular English idiomatic proverb or figure of speech. The proverb literally means "you cannot both possess your cake and eat it". It can be used to say that … one cannot or should not try to have two incompatible things. The proverb's meaning is similar to the phrases "you can't have it both ways" and "you can't have the best of both worlds." In the spiritual sense having your cake and eating it too, is having the knowledge of your flesh and all its desires, forsaking what the Spirit is calling you to, and instead choosing to be led by your flesh to enjoy your own selfish desires . Romans 8:3-4 In other words God says, “You can't have My Son and Your Old Life too. Hmmm... Matthew 9:17. 2 Corinthians 5:17 God says, "I'm calling you to a deeper level but your flesh is still holding on to the things it enjoys.” “So then, since Christ suffered physical pain, you must arm yourselves with the same attitude he had, and be ready to suffer, too. For if you have suffered physically for Christ, you have finished with sin. You won't spend the rest of your lives chasing your own desires, but you will be anxious to do the will of God.” So what's wrong with dancing? Have you ever had a piece of cake call you? A glass of wine? A Bus Stop dance as you watched others? Or whatever it is that appeals to your flesh, and you sensed deep inside, it was wrong for you and in some way would harm you, someone else or your relationship with God? Galatians 6:8 That's what dancing does for me. The Bus Stop? awwh come on now! You are not going to tell me that there is something wrong with having a good time and doing the Bus Stop, (or whatever it's called today. Smile)? It's not about whether you can't dance, drink wine, eat cake or whatever. 1 Corinthians 6:12 It's not a set of laws we have to keep. Hebrews 7:19 It is in my relationship with Our Father and what He is calling me to for His purpose and His plan. Jeremiah 29:11 It is not about me but about the salvation of others. When Peter taught the people about living for God in 1 Peter 4:1-2 he said, “You've already put in your time in that God-ignorant way of life, partying night after night, a drunken and profligate life. Now it's time to be done with it for good.” (The Message) The question is not whether or not you can dance but where is your focus? Is it still on you, this world and simply having a good time? Are you still trying to have two incompatible things, the best of two worlds? Or are you truly Your Elder Brother's brother or sister Matthew 12:50 with your focus on Our Father's will John 5:30 and His desires, for He desires that none perish. 2 Peter 3:9 and He came to seek and save the lost. Luke 19:10 Why don't I dance? It's because His Spirit has led me to this place of sacrifice. Romans 12:1 Ohhh I too want to move and groove to the music. Sing me some Luther Vandross. Although, dropping it like its hot has never appealed to me, but a good old Bus Stop, especially the new ones, man, I would dip and add my own lil moves. But it's a sacrifice for His purpose for my life. Is dancing wrong in itself? It's not dancing it's my relationship with God and what He has drawn me too. Romans 12:2, Hebrews 11:25 He has set me apart for His purpose and holy use. 1 Peter 2:9 He has called me by name Isaiah 45:4 and I have answered and have come out from among them. 2 Corinthians 6:17 And He's still cleaning and calling me closer. Psalm 24:3-4 And most of all it's no longer I that live but He that lives through me. Galatians 2:20 There maybe someone He has placed in my midst that is watching my life. Just maybe dancing for whatever reason may cause her to stumble and fall back into a life she's struggling to come out of. It's like having and anchor to hold on to, to keep from drowning and the anchor can't do what it was designed to do, to keep you afloat until you are rescued . Romans 14:20-21 So what place of sacrifice is God calling you to? There is someone he has placed in your midst whom you are called to be an anchor, to hold on to, until they see the Lord Jesus through your life and receive Him as their Lord and Savior and be rescued. 2 Corinthians 4:10 God says, “_______________ (insert your name), “You can't have it both ways. I'm calling you to a deeper level but your flesh is still holding on to the things it enjoys. Stop looking at what I called Denise or anyone else to and focus on what I called you to. Remember what I said, many will ask why you are not doing this or that but simply tell them to ask Me. 1 Peter 4:4-5 Now come and meet me at your place of sacrifice.” Share your thoughts | |
